The principality of Andorra is a small country located in the Pyrenees, at the border between Spain and France. The country presents the political characteristic to be placed under the sovereignty shared of the bishop of Urgell and the Head of the French State, all two jointly Co-princes d' Andorre since an edict of 1607. Since the first Constitution adopted at the time of a referendum in 1993, Andorre is placed under the mode of the parliamentary Co-principality. The Prime Minister is elected by the council of the Valleys, itself elected.
Geography: located in the solid mass of the Eastern Pyrenees, the territory of Andorra presents a very mountainous landscape mainly, with tops an average height of 1.997 m and of which more than 65 culminate above 2.000 Mr.
Relief and river: the culminating point of Andorra, the Pedrosa Coma, rises at an altitude of 2.946 Mr. the most important river, the Valira river, formed by the junction of the rivers Northern Valira LED and Valira d' Orient, traverses the Andorran territory on 44 km towards Spanish Catalonia. The country shelters also more than one about thirty lakes.
Climate and period of voyage advised: it reigns in Andorra a continental climate of mountain. In winter one observes heavy snowfalls and in summer, the temperatures remain moderate. The country can be delighted by an average sunning bordering the 300 days per annum. The intermediate seasons of the autumn and spring are generally also very pleasant. The average temperatures lie between - 2 °C in winter and 24°C in summer, but vary according to altitude with a difference in approximately 5 degrees.
Andorra offers in any season tourism of mountain of quality. The winter from December to April offers beautiful ski slopes equipped with a very good infrastructure in the greatest skiable field of the Pyrenees and the summer, from June to September, the mountains invite to make splendid excursions in a remarkably preserved nature.
Official languages and spoken languages: Andorra is the only country in the world to have the Catalan like official language, but Spanish is the language most usually employed, because it is the language most largely widespread among the foreigners who live in Andorra and who represent more half of the total population of the country. French also is of course largely used.
Health and vaccinations: in Andorra nothing in particular to be announced in the field of health and vaccinations. No obligatory vaccination, nor of particular epidemic risk. Only the inherent risks with the practice of the sports of snow or the practice of the excursion in high mountain should be the subject of an special attention and a good preparation.
Conditions of entry on the territory: for the French nationals and that although Andorra does not form part of Schengen space, a valid indentity card is enough to penetrate on the Andorran ground. The minor travellers must be provided with an individual indentity card.
Travel and transport: Andorra does not have to date an airport, even if a project is at the present time under study. The road is thus the only means of transport to go there. Fortunately, in spite of the extremely escarpé landscape, the highway network is well developed today. For the travellers without personal means of transport, the principality set up a network of buses which furrow the country since the capital and towards all the tourist destinations.

Tourist sites: Andorra is especially famous still today for its statute of tax shelter because one pays neither taxes there, nor VAT, which makes it possible to the tradesmen to practice prices defying any competition for the greatest joy of the many tourists. However the principality of Andorra enormously invested these last years to develop its tourist infrastructure and to benefit a better from its natural assets and its rich person cultural heritage.
The small town of Soldeu, located between Step of the Box and Andorra the Old woman, gathers all the charms of a small village of mountain, flowered of géranium to the balconies in summer, animated and covered with snow in winter, combining the charm of the tradition and the comfort of modernity. In summer of the village one can borrow a great number of footpaths which furrow several mountains and in winter, of Soldeu one can join with ski the great field of Grandvalira. For those which would still have energy after a good day of ski or walk, the village offers in more one animated night life.
The Step of the Box, located very close to the border with France is mainly known French tourists for its trade at the taken the tax off prices. The Step is however also the greatest ski station of Andorra. Thanks to its altitude, 2.250 m, snowing up are guaranteed there in winter. The infrastructure is as excellent there as it is for hotel trade or the activities suggested what constitutes the guarantee to spend good holidays.
To have a better idea of the beauty of nature in Andorra, it is enough to mention that since 2004 the valley of Madriu is registered with the inheritance of UNESCO as “a cultural landscape”. On all the territory of the principality, the practice of the excursion allows in summer, along many well marked out paths, to discover the marvellous landscapes of the Pyrenees and to practice there according to the desire, of the sports activities such as the canyoning (descent of ravines), the climbing or the VTT.
In winter, Andorre is particularly well equipped for the winter sports. At the present time, the principality can be enorgueillir to have a skiable field of 177 tracks which represent 285 km of tracks skiables, 110 ski lifts and 1385 snow-blowers distributed on three principal stations.
The cultural heritage of Andorra is very marked by the Romanesque art which was largely expressed there. One finds there a very important concentration of churches and Romance vaults built between IXe and XIIIe since this small country counts some more than 40. Most beautiful are those of Sant Joan de Caselles with Canillo, of Sant Romà of the Goods with Encamp, of Sant Marti of Cortinada with Ordino and the sanctuary of Meritxell, located at Canillo, set up on the remainders of a church dating from XVIIe, destroyed by a fire according to the plans of the famous Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill.
In fact either the museums miss in Andorra. Among those which expose objects having milked to the long story of the country, one will quote that of the Models of Romanesque art which is in Escaldes-Engordany and which exposes about thirty models of the principal monuments of the principality.
Religion: the Andorran population is with more than 90% of catholic Roman religion.
