Tourist guide China (Asia)

The Popular republic of China, which one usually calls China, is a country of Eastern Asia. The Republic was proclaimed in 1949. Since, the country is directed by the Chinese Communist party. (PCC) It is about an authoritarian regime resting on the principles of the Marxism-Leninism. However, its economy is now partly liberalized and China became a giant of the worldwide economy. Thus, it is about the fourth world economic power. On the diplomatic level, it is one of the five permanent members of the Safety advice of the United Nations.

China is the country of superlatives. Old woman of more than 4000 years, it is with 1.321.851 888 inhabitants the country more populated world. (that is equivalent to 23 times the population of France)

Geography: Composed of 22 provinces, China has a surface of 9.596.960 km2, which makes of it the largest country of Eastern Asia. On a world level, China is with the third rank for its surface, after Russia and Canada. So the landscapes and the climates there are very varied. The country into two is generally separated: west and the north on a side, and is the south of the other. Thus, the west and the north of the country are characterized by mountainous highlands, deserts and forests, whereas the areas of the east and south more rainy, which is also reflected in the landscapes, are composed of hills, of fertile plains and river. It is there that are located the cultivated grounds, whereas the grounds of the West are rather devoted to the pastures. Another form of cutting is that of the staircase. Thus, relief of this country which very mountainous (5/6ème of the grounds is located at more 500m of altitude.) can be compared with a staircase made up of 3 principal stages. The highest grounds are found on the plate of Qinghai-Tibet: “the roof of the world”. These landscapes of high plains and assembly lines are located at altitudes ranging between 5000 and 6000 meters. Then the second stage comes, with the plates of Inner Mongolia, of Yunnan-Guizhou and the yellow river. It is also there that one finds the basins of Tarim and Sichuan. Lastly, the third stage is that which goes down to the sea. The landscapes are composed there of hills or basic mountains altitude. Near banks of the Yellow sea and Eastern China Sea, the landscapes are dominated by vast alluvial plains very densément populated.

Mountains and rivers: The largest Chinese river is Yangzi, which 6.300 km is long. It is even the third longest river of the world, after the Amazon and the Nile. Yangzi Jiang (or Chang-Jiang) is so to speak the border symbolic system which separates north, where one cultivates especially corn, the millet and the sorghum, of the south, where one cultivates mainly cotton, silk and rice. The basin of Yangzi is one of the most populated areas of China. The second most important river is the yellow river (Huang He), important symbol of the Chinese culture. It holds its name of the sediments which it carts. Among the other important rivers, one finds Xi Jiang, Mekong or the Love. The highest assembly line is located at the West. It is about the Himalayas, where the highest top of the world is located: the Mount Everest, which culminates to 8850 Mr. These landscapes of high plateaus are extremely arid.

Climate and advised season: It is obvious that in such a gigantic country, almost all the climates are represented. To summarize, one can say that the north of the country is rather dry and windy, whereas the south is wet and hot, majority of the areas being in moderate or subtropical zone. During the winter, the differences in temperature are enormous, and that, anywhere in the country. But that attenuates in summer.

One can however try to establish a certain classification: in the very dry areas of the North-West, the variations in temperature are extreme. Thus, in Inner Mongolia and in Xinjiang, the summers are very hot and dry and the cold and very dry winters. On the plate Tibetan, the winters are extremely cold whereas the summers are very short and rather soft. The sunning is continuous and abundant there. In the North-East of the country, the summers do not last a long time and are rather fresh, whereas the winters are long and very cold. In the large plain of China of the North, which is also the area where Beijing is, spring and the autumn is fort beautiful seasons, even if they do not last a long time. It is as in this area, mid-April, as prevail the “sandstorms yellow”. In the coastal regions, in the east of the country, one finds obviously the oceanic climate. Along the Yangzi river, the summers are hot and very rainy. It is the principal agricultural area of the country. In the South of China, it is the subtropical climate which dominates. The winters are soft and wet there, and the hot and rainy summers. In the extreme south of the country and on the island of Hainan reigns the tropical climate. During the hot season, monsoon celebrates it pours its rains on all Eastern and central China.

The best periods for a voyage in China are from September to October and of at the end of April at the beginning of June.

Language (S) and communication: The official language is Mandarin. There are eight principal dialects which have them same regional alternatives. Thus, there exist 56 different ethnos groups in China and each one has its own language. The principal ethnos group is that of Hans. (92%)

However, certain vaccines are recommended, in particular those against the diphteria, hepatitis B, tetanus and the polio. The rage is also widespread in the Chinese campaigns, very like the Japanese encéphalite, that one finds especially in the rural areas of the Southern half of the country.

And if you wish to avoid the turista, then do not eat crudenesses, or fruit and vegetables if you cannot be sure that they were peeled, washed or cooked. To also avoid not cooked the enough meats, the shells, as well as drinks and dairy products of artisanal manufacture. Paludism is especially widespread in Yunnan and Hennan, two areas of the South China which in any case are attended little. The dengue is on the other hand more present, even if it is in a periodic way and especially in the Southern half of the country. A good number of diseases being transmitted by the mosquitos, it is necessary to be protected some effectively, especially when the big cities are left. (mosquito net and repulsive of type Repel Insect).

For those which reside more than one year in China, it is obligatory then to carry out a test for AIDS and to obtain a doctor's certificate.

(However, it will not be necessary for of it to you for Hong-Kong, if you remain there less than 90 days). There exist two types of visa: the tourist visa and the visa of businesses. Obtaining the tourist visa, which is valid 3 months starting from its date of obtaining, in general takes place in the 5 days. Its price is of 35 € (50 € for 2 entries). For the visa of businesses, it is the same thing, but it will be necessary for you in more one invitation letter or a fax on behalf of the Chinese company. KLM, Swiss Air or Air France propose Paris-Shanghai flights. But you can to also return you first of all to Hong-Kong, for example with British Airways or Air France. For HongKong, it is often more advantageous to hold a flight in departure of London.

As regards transport on the spot, they are diversified. Thus, China privileged the railway network for a long time. Moreover, it is one of the best means to travel on long distances. The trains are in general very slow, but specific. And especially, it is a very pleasant rate/rhythm to discover this country and its fantastic landscapes, Ainsi, it will be necessary for you of 12 with 20:00 to go from Shanghai to Beijing, but the beauty of the landscape is worth the sorrow of it! In any case, you can rent of car only with driver, since the foreign and international licenses are not recognized in China.

As regards the joint grid systems, that of the buses is often developed the most and most effective. It is also, after the walking and the bicycle, the most economic means to move downtown. The system functions well. The buses are specific and, as regards comfort, it varies according to the prosperity of the city. Capital: Beijing (or Beijing) is the capital of China and it is also the city where the Olympic Games of 2008 will take place. After Shanghai, it is the second agglomeration of the country (with 17 million inhabitants) and also one of its more important arts centres. City several times thousand-year-old, Beijing is located at the North-East of the country, just at the south of the Great wall. It is indeed in the north of Beijing which are located good number of areas which were annexed only tardily in China. The Great wall indeed marked the northern border of the Chinese territory. Among the sites not to be missed, one can quote the place Tian' anmen and the mausoleum of Mao, the city prohibited, today a museum and classified with the inheritance of the humanity, which extends on 720.000 m2, the Buddhist temple Tibetan of Yonghe, the Beihai park and its lakes, the temple of the sky, also classified to him with the world heritage, the opera, the street of silk, the flea market and the many museums. In the surroundings, you will be able to visit the Great wall and the Palate of Summer.

Tourist sites: If you have only little time, concentrate on the big cities. Concurrently to Beijing, the most visited cities are Shanghai and Hong-Kong! Comes then Xi' year and mausoleum of the Qin emperor celebrates it where one can very admire a terra cotta army 2000 years and old. Classified with the world heritage of UNESCO, it is about the most important archeological site of China. Very close from there the hot sources and the palate of Huaqing Hot Spring are. Water is there naturally with 43 ° C.

In Shanghai, do not miss the street of Nankin (Nanjing Lu), the place of the people and the opera of Shanghai, the Chinese old city or the Yu garden, which belong to most beautiful of China. In the West of the city, you will be able to admire the district of the old French concession. It is there that the oldest residences of the city are. It is good also to walk the morning on the quays which border the river Huang Pu, along Bund. You will see very beautiful buildings there dating from the Thirties. Lastly, in the surroundings, is the town of Pingyao, with its old residences and ramparts and the Buddhist caves of Yungang.

Another city, another atmosphere: Hong-Kong! Formerly British colony, Hong-Kong was reassigned in China in 1997. It is today a special administrative area of the Popular republic of China. Located at the South of China, on banks of the southernmost China Sea, it is the richest city of China. The British influence is still very present there. Among the sites not to be missed, one can quote the old working of Kowloon with his walk, the museums of Arts and space, or Nathan Road. The districts of Yau My Tei and Mongkok are worth also the turning. While strolling, you will pass by the market of night of Street Temple, the market with Jades or the district of Exchange. To the east of the city the district extends from Wanchai. To appreciate of it its charm, anything of such as a ballade on the basis of the Star Ferry until the top of Victoria Peak. From there, the sight on Hong-Kong is splendid. It would be a shame not to make a turning by the district of Causeway Bay. It is there that is the temple of the goddess Tin Hau or the garden of the Balsam of the Tiger (Aw Boon Haw Garden). If you have a little time, return to Aberdeen, the south of the island of Hong-Kong, or, further still, in the islands of LAMA and Lantau. It is in the island of Lantau that the great Buddha of the temple of the sky is. In this area, in fact the possibilities of bathe miss, while starting with the island of Sentosa and its beaches idyllic. Lastly, for the accros of the play, an excursion with Macao is essential! It is about smallest of the two special administrative areas. It is the paradise of the casinos.

Obviously, this immense country also shelters some corners of intact and splendid nature. Let us quote for example the mountainous plate of Lijang, classified with the inheritance of UNESCO. If you like the misty landscapes and the mountains which seem to leave water, then it is necessary for you absolutely to spend a few days to China of the South, and to devote a few hours to the river Li and the mountains of Guilin. Then, go to the Hill of the Moon, located not far from there, in the area of Yangshuo. In the South also, discover the mountainous region who surrounds the Huangshan mount, one of the crowned mountains taoists. This area is still very traditional and the landscapes are superb there. For the amateurs of nature, the area of Xinjiang, with the lake Karakul for example, will be also an inexhaustible source of joy.

With not missing: China is also known for the extreme variety of savors of its kitchen. Then why not a gastronomical voyage? Four great culinary traditions are distinguished: Beijing, Canton, Shanghai and Sichuan. Thus, you can start with Beijing and the area of the yellow river, where the food containing corn prevails. In Sichuan, one prefers spiced foods, because of the very high temperatures. And in the area of Shanghai, the dishes are often containing seafood, because of very close coast. To accompany your meal, nothing is worth one of these teas of great tradition whose the country conceals. Green the, with the black the, while passing by the scented teas, the white and the yellow the, you will not be able to escape from it. With also not missing, the festivals which punctuate the year, by beginning with the Chinese New year, also called festival of the spring, which is the greatest Chinese traditional festival. But there are also the festival of the lanterns, which takes place 15 days after the new year, or the festival of the Boat-Dragons. But there exists about it still well of others, to which come to be added the regional festivities. And each time, they are the occasion to taste succulent dishes!

Religion: There is no official. One can rather speak about philosophies or superstitions. One can however distinguish three principal religious doctrines: Buddhism, taoism and Confucianism. But these three doctrines mix in any case often with the local superstitions. One of the most known principles, which is in the beginning many Chinese legends, is that of the yin and the yang, which governs the operation of the universe.
