The Republic of Cape Verde is an insular country of the Atlantic Ocean located at 550 km off the coasts of Senegal. The archipelago is composed of 15 islands of volcanic origin, of which 9 only are inhabited. There is habit to divide the islands into “islands on the wind” and into “Leeward Islands”. Among the islands on the wind one counts Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista and the not inhabited islands of Santa Luzia, Branco and of Raso. The capital: the most populated most important city and archipelago, Praia, are on the island of Santiago and shelter approximately 70.000 inhabitants.
