The island of Taiwan is located at the East of China, in the Pacific Ocean. This independent state names officially „République of China, but is in recognized fact on a world level only by some governments. Europeans also knew it under his Portuguese name of Formosa. It is necessary to add to the Taiwanese territory the Pescadores islands, in the strait of Taiwan and the islands Quemoy and Mazu, located close to China.
Geography and Climate: The island is located at the level of the tropic of Cancer which marks the border between the tropical climate and the subtropical one. An assembly line separates the country into two, from the geographical point of view as from the climatic point of view. In North the tropical climate and in the South dominates the subtropical climate. In winter, time is very influenced by the monsoon of the North-East while in summer it is the monsoon of the South-west which influences the climate. Just like Japan, the country is often devastated by typhoons and the earthquakes are relatively frequent, the country being located between the Eurasian continental plate and the Japanese plate.
Mountains and rivers: The culminating point of the country, which is also its climatic border, is Yu Shan, with its 3.997 Mr. more the big lake of Taiwan is the lake of the Sun and the Moon, to 762 m with the top of the sea level.

There is however no risk of Malaria. Only the tourist big cities and centers are able to guarantee medical care of quality. This is why it is highly recommended to provide itself with a special health insurance for the voyages, valid in the whole world and with insurance-repatriation in the event of urgency. Apart from that, it is recommended to peel the fruits and to cook vegetables in order to avoid any risk of infection. It is also judicious to carry a small first-aid kit with the necessary one.
Conditions of entry: The passport is obligatory and must be valid still 6 months as from your date of arrival. For the stays not exceeding 30 days, it is not necessary to have a visa. It is enough for you to present the ticket return and to have financial means sufficient. The children must be provided with an individual passport.
Arrival and displacements on the spot: There does not exist non-stop flight starting from Paris. However, the national company China Airlines (Ci) proposes direct flights towards Taipei (TPE) starting from Frankfurt (FRA) and of Amsterdam (AMS). There exist other direct connections towards Taipei starting from European cities, which are proposed by the company Singapore Airlines (SQ), Eva Air (Br) or Thai Airways (TG), but with stopover. Once arrived at Taiwan, several regional companies such Airlines Mandarins (AE), TransAsia Airways (GE) or Linked Air (B7) propose interior flights, for example towards Kaohsiung (KHH), Kinmen (KNH), Makung (MZG), Tainan (TNN) or Taitung (TTT).
Capital: The Taipei capital is located at the North of the country, along the river Danshui and account, with its agglomeration, 3 Million inhabitants. This very modern metropolis is the political, economic and cultural center of Taiwan and fact part of the most important Asian cities. Among the interesting sites, we will retain Taipei Financial Center, a 509 height m skyscraper, which makes of it the most high-rise office building of the world. Because of the number of its stages, it carries the nickname “Taipei 101”. For the art lovers, the national museum of the Palate is to be recommended. This museum is located a little outside the downtown area but its art gallery contains an impressive collection of 650.000 craft industry and objets d'art coming from the imperial palace of Beijing. Other half of the collection is since the Chinese civil war of 1949 in the museum of the imperial palace of Beijing.
Sites and places of bathe: Oldest and also most beautiful of the city of the country is Tainan. Dutch chose to build it in 1621 because of its ideal site. It is there that are the majority of the colonial residences of the country. This city has also more than 300 examples of Chinese traditional architecture, all preserved very well. The monuments not to be missed are the temple of Confucius, the temple of Kuanti, the temple of the celestial empress, the Wufei temple and the reliquary of Koxinga.
If you are rather tried by the bathes, then do not miss the national park of Kenting, in the South of the island. It is also the destination preferred of Taiwanese for their holidays. The splendid sand beaches white, the small splits bordered of palm trees and the natural reserves protected inside the grounds are the place dreamed for a stay-relaxation.
Religion: The majority of the population does not claim a particular religion, even if the inhabitants of the island are influenced by various elements of the Buddhist religions, taoists and confucéennes.
