The Republic of Madagascar is an island state located at the south-east of the Indian Ocean, off the East Africa, of which it is separated by the channel from Mozambique, broad 400 km. The island, the larger fifth of the world, enjoys a world reputation for the single richness of its fauna and its flora.
Geography: the landscape of the island is strongly influenced by a zone of top-plates in the center which recovers more than 60% of the territory at an average altitude ranging between 800 m and 1500 Mr. On coast-is, the relief drops abruptly to leave the place to a narrow coastal strip. The west of the island is characterized by lower plates, a landscape of plains and by a landscape of savanna devastated by the regular practice of the denshering.

The natural reserve of Tsingy de Bemaraha, classified with the inheritance of UNESCO since 1990 presents an imposing karstic relief with its high bored cliffs of deep caves. The reserve is also the place of residence of several species of lemurs which populate its dense forests.
In the south, the town of Fianaranstsoa constitutes an interesting stage to discover the area of the top-plates. From there, one will be able to go in the area of Ambalavao, called “countries of died” by the Madagascans because it are of habit to lay out the bones of dead in the caves of surrounding cliffs and to come to visit them regularly.
With the extreme southern point of the island Taolanaro, the first French colony is, which one can still admire the fortifications which date from the 7th century.
